Berlin and Brandenburg form Germany´s capital region. In the field of Homeland Security it is the most important cluster of public institutions, research facilities and companies in Germany. An in-depth study by the Brandenburg Economic Development Board presents the potentials of the capital region´s security industry. According to the latest survey, there are more than 250 companies active in the field of security in the region:

Furthermore, the region hosts ten Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences with dozens of institutes active in R&D in the field as well as more than 20 extramural research institutions such as the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and others.
SecTec Berlin-Brandenburg is an intitiative of both State Governments - Berlin and Brandenburg - to support the growing security industry in the area, to provide a forum for exchanges and communication between the various public and private actors and to push forward projects of common interest. The ulterior aim, of course, is more safety and security for Germany´s capital region and beyond. Secondary aims are more economic growth through higher competitiveness of the security industry in Berlin-Brandenburg and better integration of the regional initiatives and projects in national and European networks and programmes.
For the time being, SecTec Berlin-Brandenburg is managed by the Brandenburg Economic Development Board (ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg GmbH), the Land Brandenburg´s central economic development agency.
